SAILING TOUR

Low Carbon Lifestyle Tour

The Low Carbon Lifestyle Tour was a 6-month voyage around Britain in the revolutionary zero-emission Explorer Microyacht, to promote the benefits of low carbon living. The tour visited forty ports including Swansea, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, London and Southampton, liaising with regional and national media to reach an audience of 12 million.

The message is that a low carbon lifestyle - one which creates less carbon dioxide - is easy, fun, saves money and improves your quality of life. A website, fliers and handbook accompany the tour, which launched from Clovelly, Devon, on 8th April 2007 and ended in Exeter, in October 2007. (Clovelly to Exeter was covered by Mukti Mitchell in ‘Chance’ during the Southwest Low Carbon Tour in 2005.)

The challenge...

Some of the activities that create CO2 include: Driving a car, heating a home, plane travel, manufacturing and transport. So in a low carbon lifestyle you live closer to work, insulate your home, go on holiday by train, buy quality products, walk and cycle short journeys and eat local food.

Exercise improves your mood, fresh food improves health and quality products save time and money. If we each reduce our emissions by 10% per year, we will achieve net zero by 2030. Life then will be similar to today, but we won't waste energy and we will be healthier and happier!

A new approach to climate change

"When I heard about Mukti's talk I thought I knew what to expect. I couldn't have been more wrong - Mukti has given us all an opportunity to reassess the way we talk about climate change. I was a sceptic about the "no guilt" approach, but I saw Mukti in action and I now believe that it is the only way to get people to change behaviour - and it really works, it immediately makes people relax and open up to what Mukti's saying, which of course makes sense. - No pressure, no judgment, and it is remarkably powerful - an inspiration." - Jessie Rogers, Lymington
